Which presumably means that a lot of good things are still there.
PS No I do not come from Lancashire.

Very good place for fish and chips is the Frying Machine in Thornbury (near Bristol). An excellent place for chips is a little Schnelli in Belgium only yards over the border from Roetgen in Germany, unfortunately no fish just magnificent home made chips, no factory made rubbish.

A number of people are recommending Harry Ramsdens, well sorry to disappoint you readers but the original Ramsdens in Guisley West Yorkshire is now crap ISA Crap. It used to be the best around and the car park was always full of coaches, its now a ghost town and the food and service is very poor.
Thats why most people in the know and all the coach parties now go to Bizzie Lizzies restaraunt and take away in Skipton North Yorks.

BillyNoMates:
Ref: Jockanese Fish'n'Chip Shops.
It's a little known fact, but most are run
by persons of "Italian" extraction, the
reason being that their dads were captured
Prisoners-of-War, and none of 'em went
back to the Old Country when the War
ended. They settled in Scotland and took
over the world of Fish, Chips and Deep
Fried Haggis! Many others emigrated to
Scotland to escape the Facist regime.
Zavaronis Chippy, Rothesay was always
a good one, when "Perisher Running" on
Diesel Boats.
The Italian link with Scotland predates Mussolini and the Fascists, they obviously realised that we needed civilising and arrived in droves to found many excellent ice cream parlours and chippies. As a kid I never ate factory ice cream only the best Italian made on the premises, Locally that was either Nicora's or Arcari's though sometimes DiMarco', and for a treat we got Luca's. Sadly only Luca's is still going and still make the best ice cream.
I agree with McCloggy that Anstruther is excellent, they went through a bad patch when the place changed hands but the new owners now have their act together and once again they are excellent. A couple of weeks ago we tried the worlds only 'sail through' chippy on the Forth and Clyde canal as we brought the boat from the clyde to the forth and they were very good too, adespit being in Clydebank they were able to provide sauce. It is though not too easy to eat a fish supper whilst steering a boat in a canal.
Ramsdens is very poor by comparison, too much frozen stuff, and poorly cooked.
.....or so I'm reliably informed.

lol for shame. not all who eat these foods are fat. you either have the propensity to be fat or you dont, simple as that.

Here you are, Leatherneck.
s160912024.websitehome...story.html
I remember going there as a kid on a Sunday and seeing all the coach parties, but apparently things have changed nowadays.

Leatherneck, in answer to your question re Ramsdens in Guisley, it is about 35 miles from Sheffield, but I cannot recommend their products,
Bizzie Lizzies in Skipton approx same distance from Sheffield is much better.

The following get my vote:
"F-in Elsie's", Marsh Lane, Bootle, Liverpool (near the docks).
Buon Appetito, Sheddens roundabout, near Glasgow
The Quarterdeck, Whitby
And
One in Helston, on the hill, cant remember the name.
(I havent been there for 20 years......)
